How to Create the Right Hashtag

They’re everywhere. Sometimes right in your face, other times hidden low in a post. Either way, social media is covered with them: Hashtags. What are they? What do they do? Why do I want them? Getting some attention on hectic, crowded social media platforms can be tough, so casting a wide net into the InstaBook Sea might not pull up the best catch. With a little help from our friend,  the hashtag , it's much easier for creators find followers and followers find creators. What is this “hash tag?” Using the hash symbol (#) to find groups on social media was first suggested by Chris Messina in 2007 on Twitter. People began to use the hash to communicate with others and group messages together. It blew up when, later that year, people wanted to track the spread of the fires in southern California and #SanDiegoFire was most effective. In 2009, Twitter hyperlinked hashtags so that users could easily jump to other posts using the same hashtag. This could be anything from #CuteP...

Sell an Experience: 360 ° Video Content

Remember when 3D was the new big deal? Well I don’t, I was born in ’94. No, I’m talking about the 70’s to early 80’s. Big horror films like Jaws: 3D, Amityville 3D, and Friday the 13 th Part 3 used the technology to turn the film into a fuller, more exciting experience. It was going to the next big thing. And it was, until it wasn’t. Then it was again for my childhood and that was great. It inspired by immersing audiences in the story and adding an additional level to the film experience by created new ways to show action. But it just couldn’t stick around. Wearing poorly-fitting glasses through a movie appeals to few and watching on TV at home is a less than adequate experience. Luckily for us, there’s a new entertainment “big deal.” The new craze is filming in 360° degrees. This time, though, it’s here to stay and get better. What we can use it for With 3D video, your audience needs special glasses. That’s what’s great about 360° video.  With this...

A little about me

It’s been quite a journey getting here but has, without a doubt, been worthwhile. After a quick round of handshakes with the early risers at Racer and Avento in Ålesund, I finally sit down at my own desk with new colleagues at my side and start my internship. It’s here where I’ll truly learn what I’ll need to know to work in media communications and use the theories and tips I’ve learned at Volda University College over these last few years. Now, I usually introduce myself in Norwegian and, if I do say so myself, I’m pretty good at it. Still, I can’t seem to avoid the question “So where are you from?” either because of my name or if I’ve pronounced something oddly. That’s because I was born and raised in San Jose, California. Growing up in the Silicon Valley blessed me with the opportunity to get to know people from all over the world. Every day I met people bringing their own culture to the beautiful melting pot that is the San Francisco Bay Area. I became envious of those who had ...

The Bread and Butter of Digital Content: Video

Marketing with quality content has already been something we like to encourage everyone to do, but let’s take a more in-depth look at the benefits of video content for your business. Generally, your main focus to posting on social media should be to increase engagement and interest as well as get your customers talking about your business positively. But how  do  you get people engaged? Videos are great at turning your business from a name and product to a human face and a lifestyle. When you post a video of what it’s like to work with your business or clip of how your products can be used in creative ways, you gain trust from the audience that, in turn, creates loyalty and long-term customers. Show what happens behind the scenes. Give some insight into what your day looks like. Be creative and original with your videos. Most importantly, think of your audience and what they’ll want to see! Facebook When it comes to posting videos to a wide audience, Facebook is the...

10 Mind-Blowing Ways to Write a Clickbait Article in 2018. #2 Shocked us!

#10. No introduction whatsoever. Reading is for nerds #9. Start by counting down so readers think it’ll get better as they read.  It won’t. #8. Include extremely obvious life-hacks like “use pipe-cleaners to clean small pipes. Wow!” It’ll blow a few 12-year-olds’ minds and earn you a couple pennies in ad revenue. #7. Use hip slang that so totally doesn’t even, like, need to be there. #6. Completely lie to  your audience! It gets clicks, so why not? #5. Swear in the title. It connects with the youth. Don't worry, it doesn’t need to actually support your article. #4. Make a “quiz” that divides people into arbitrary groups based on unrelated actions. #3. Use adjectives to shock your audience into thinking the article will be interesting, but completely disappoint them with an obvious outcome. #2. Arrows and that laughing emoji. The arrows work best when they point off-screen or at noth...

How to Make the Best Landing Page

Without a doubt, a good first impression is critical for a business. Whether they’re walking through the door or entering a site through an advertisement, you want customers to feel welcome and they want to get straight to what they came for.  All too often, people click on an ad about a specific product or service only to be sent to a home page with too much information and no guide to get them where they want. This is bad. What you really want to do is show leads exactly what they clicked on the ad for. Since we can see how leads enter the site, we can then direct them towards their interests. Make it as easy as possible to get more information about your product and then make the purchase. So how are we going to do that? A Landing Page, of course Simply said, the landing page is the first page potential customers land on after clicking on an advertisement, social media post, or email. A successful landing page has several core elements: Have a catchy headline Include a...

The Coalition for Better Ads is on the Prowl

As important ads are for businesses and publishers, some are on their way out thanks to Google. That’s right, the supporter of the ads has started to block irritating ads that take away from the experience of the website. As of the 15 th  of February, Google Chrome will be blocking annoying ads on both their desktop and mobile versions. In an attempt to clean up websites from intrusive advertisements, Google has decided to follow the “ Better Ads Standards .” These standards are the result of a project of the “Coalition for Better Ads,” which is a collection of businesses and organizations such as Microsoft and Google hoping to quell the use of ad-blockers and increase income for advertisers and publishers. People don’t hate ads Even though ads aren’t  fun,  most people are perfectly happy to enjoy free content with ads as long as they don’t block content or add unwanted sound, according to the coalition’s  research . Google hopes to please users and ...
